ANSWERS
1. WHY DID YOU START MAJOR LEAGUE 5 PIN?
We started the league for many reasons. First and foremost is that we are very interested in increasing the profile of the sport of 5 pin bowling in rural Manitoba. There are many organizations that play a role in this, including the C5PBA, MBAC and BPAC. We would like to add to their efforts. Our main goals are to provide a pro level of competition for our bowlers and give the YBC bowlers in the area something to strive towards in the sport.
2. WHERE DO YOU BOWL?
We will be bowling at Recreation Lanes, on 10th Street, in Brandon, Manitoba, and Carman 5 Pin Bowl in Carman, Manitoba. There will be 3 weeks of play in Brandon and 4 weeks of play in Carman, including this season's ML5 playoffs.
3. HOW MUCH DOES IT COST TO JOIN? WHY SO MUCH?
The entry fee includes 270 dollars per team up front, as well as 60 dollars per week. This fee does not include lineage. We will be paying over 5000 dollars in prize money, based on 8 teams. We chose this fee because we want to maximize the prize money while trying not to exclude bowlers who cannot afford to play. This is also an effort to ensure that potential players/teams are fully committed to the sport. It should be noted that the 270 dollars and the weekly fees are the total for the team and can be split up as the team decides and amongst as many bowlers as there are on the team. With 5 bowlers on a team, the up front fees would be 54 dollars with 12 per week, per bowler.
4. HOW MANY BOWLERS CAN BE ON A TEAM? WHO IS ALLOWED TO JOIN?
There is no limit to the number of bowlers on a team. There shall be 3 players bowling at a time with the possiblility of substitutions between games, but not during. The league is open to all C5PBA members, regardless of residency or age.
5. HOW MANY TEAMS ARE ALLOWED?
We will take the first 10 teams entered, with a current expectation of 8 teams.
6. WHY DO YOU HAVE AN AVERAGE CAP? IS IT PERMANENT?
Each team's average must not exceed 715 to keep the teams as evenly competitive as possible. After much debate, the cap has been kept the same for Season 3.
7. WHY ARE YOU ONLY RUNNING THE LEAGUE FROM SEPTEMBER TO DECEMBER?
The fall season was chosen due to a minimum of other events to work around. We will be scheduling around other elite events including The Manitoba Open and Master Bowlers Association Tournament Division events. We feel that running after January may make this too difficult for a league running on Sundays.
8. IS THE LEAGUE SCRATCH OR PINS OVER AVERAGE?
Major League 5 Pin will be run on a scratch pin fall basis with match play deciding points, in order to provide an experience similar to that found in events such as the C5PBA Open Championship.
9. HOW ARE THE TEAMS PUT TOGETHER? IS THERE A DRAFT?
With Major League 5 Pin, there is no draft. Groups are put together by prospective teammates and enter as a unit. In order to maintain a competitive atmosphere, the combined average of the three players bowling at any given time must not exceed 715.
