Team Scherr Captures 2005 Guild Insurance Cup
Team Goes Undefeated in 3 Straight Matches
The Ron Scherr captained squad of Scherr, Ian Sylvester, Fern Kerr, and John Stedman started in 3rd place but defeated every other ML5 playoff team to capture the Guild Insurance Cup for 2005. Team Scherr jumped out to an early lead, taking game one of the two game match 3-2. Needing to come from behind, the team of Randy McFarlane, Mike Clarke, and Steve Derksen mounted an early attack in game 2, with the final undecided until the 10th frame. A 3-2 second game created a 5-5 tie, with the resulting tiebreaker being a 1506 - 1428 total pinfall in favour of Team Scherr. Scherr, Sylvester, Kerr and Stedman took home the top playoff prize of $1290 dollars, and will have their names permanently etched on the Guild Insurance Cup. The McFarlane group earned its spot in the final with a 9-1 triumph over Dave Mansell, Tracy Swift and Phil Syntak in the one versus two page playoff match. Scherr and company squeaked out another 5-5 match by tiebreaker against the Dave Mansell team in the semi-final. A 8-2 match over the 4th place team of Ken Wilson, Christy Wilson, and Dean Owen began the Scherr team's run to the title.
