The Carman trio of Randy McFarlane, Mike Clarke and Steve Derksen has a full head of steam heading into the Major League 5 Pin playoff round. Team McFarlane closed out the ML5 regular season with 20 match play points Sunday on its home turf to secure first place and a date with Team Dave Mansell of Minnedosa. McFarlane and company reached or surpassed the 20-point mark in each of the final four weeks and finished the six-week campaign with a total of 119 points, five ahead of Dave Mansell, Tracy Swift and Phil Syntak. Swift rolled a six-game total of 1591 (265 average) on Sunday, including a 361 single. The McFarlane and Mansell squads will square off in a two-game match next weekend with the winner advancing directly to the championship final.

Next weekend's other page playoff match pits third-place Team Ron Scherr against fourth-place Team Ken Wilson in a battle of Carman-based entries. Scherr, along with partners Ian Sylvester and Fern Kerr, picked up 21 of a possible 30 points in Week Six for a total of 112 points. Captain Scherr led the charge with a 1527 total (254 average). He and Sylvester each earned five head-to-head victories. The Wilson threesome, which also includes Christy Wilson and Dean Owen, ended up with 88 points. Team Wilson edged Team Rae by four points and Team Clisby by five in the fight for the final post-season berth. The winner of the Scherr-Wilson contest will meet the loser of the McFarlane-Mansell tilt in a semi-final.
