There is a new leader in Major League 5 Pin. The Minnedosa-based Dave Mansell team, which includes Tracy Swift, Phil Syntak and Brandon Mansell, picked up 23 match play points Sunday at Carman 5 Pin Bowl to take over sole possession of first place in the six-team fall super league. Carman's Randy McFarlane, along with teammates Mike Clarke and Steve Derksen, also made a big move in Week Five with 26 points. Clarke rolled a seven-game total of 1823 (260 average) and won five head-to-head contests while Derksen also went 5-and-2, increasing his season victory total to an ML5-high 21 (21-and-13). Team McFarlane is just one point behind the front-running Mansell squad at 99. Meanwhile, the struggles continued for Morden's Ron Scherr and company. The Scherr team fell from its perch atop the standings with a disappointing nine-point performance and is now nine points out of top spot with only six games remaining in the regular season.

While the Mansell, McFarlane and Scherr teams all have their sights set on an ML5 pennant, the league's other three entries continue to jockey for the final playoff spot. Carman's Ken Wilson averaged 253 and defeated six of seven opponents on Sunday to help his team hang on to fourth place. Team Wilson has a season total of 77 points, followed by Team Rae (73 pts.) and Team Clisby (70 pts.).
