Morden's Ron Scherr, along with teammates Ian Sylvester and John Stedman of Carman, earned 25.5 of a possible 30 points Sunday at Recreation Lanes to grab an early stranglehold on the competition in Major League 5 Pin. Sylvester won all six of his individual matches and averaged 259 in the process while Scherr went 5-and-1.
The Scherr threesome leads Brandon's Trevor Rae, Gus Scaletta and Derek Sczesny by 9.5 points. Rae averaged 245 and took five of his six contests on opening day. Nipping at the heels of the Rae squad is Randy McFarlane's Carman-based team. McFarlane, Mike Clarke and Steve Derksen have 15.5 points, followed by Team Clisby (12 pts.), Team Mansell (11 pts.) and Team Wilson (10 pts.).

Spares and Strikes: Bev Clisby and Dave Mansell were the only bowlers to crack the 300 mark on Sunday. Clisby rolled a 306 in her final game while Mansell posted a 301 in his second match...Ian Sylvester had the high three-game (837), five-game (1339) and six-game (1559) totals. The top four-game total belongs to Randy McFarlane (1043).
