Team Wilson Wins Playoffs
The inaugural season of Major League 5 Pin came to a close on Sunday, Dec. 21 at Recreation Lanes, with a final match for 1200 dollars between the Wilson family and Team Attewell.
Semi-final matches had the Attewells upsetting the top-ranked Mansell team and the Wilsons claiming a tight victory over the Bill Boorman squad. The ML5 final ended with the two teams tied in points, but the Wilsons took home the first prize of 2200 dollars based on a tie-breaking 19-point pinfall advantage.
December 14 - The Major League 5 Pin playoff picture is set. The team of Dave Mansell, Tracy Swift, Phil Syntak and Robert Hendry finished in 1st place and will take on the Terry Attewell-captained squad in one semi-final. The other matchup pits Bill Boorman and company against the Wilson threesome. Brad Ball (Team Boorman) averaged 285 on Sunday and won 17 straight matches to close out the regular season.
November 30 - The Minnedosa - Neepawa based Dave Mansell threesome became the first ML5 team to clinch a playoff appearance with another strong performance in Week 6, and Bill Clisby averaged 283 to help move his team into a thrilling three way dance for the final playoff spot. The Clisby and Rae teams are tied with 74 points, each only half a point behind the fourth place Attewell squad.
November 17 - The team of Dave Mansell, Tracy Swift and Phil Syntak picked up 23 of a possible 30 points in Week 5, increasing their lead atop the standings to 22.5. The Wilson squad earned 19 points to jump from 5th to 2nd with a total of 70.5.
November 3 - Aaron Jaworski continued his winning ways in Week 4 action at Recreation Lanes. As in week 1, Jaworski won all of his matches, to move the Terry Attewell captained team into 2nd place, 14.5 behind the Minnedosa/Neepawa based Mansell team. Christy Wilson averaged 243 to lead all bowlers on the challenging lanes in downtown Brandon.
October 19 - Dave Mansell won all 6 of his matches in Week 3 ML5 action, as he and his Minnedosa teammates grabbed 25 out of a possible 30 points to open up a 21.5 point lead atop the standings. Ken Wilson averaged 260 on the day, to help his team join a 5 team race for 2nd place. Only 2.5 points separate 2nd from 6th after 16 games of play at Recreation Lanes.
October 5 - Jerry Sayer made his presence felt in his first ML5 appearance, but couldn't lift the Trevor Rae team out of last place in week 2 action. Leading the Dave Mansell team into first place was Minnedosa's Tracy Swift, matching Aaron Jaworski's first week 5 game sweep. Consistent play continued from the Terry Attewell threesome, keeping them in second place, only 5 points behind the Mansell led squad.
September 21 - Bill Clisby led all bowlers in average by a wide margin in the first week of Major League 5 Pin, but the big winners were the Bill Boorman team, bringing home 16 points in the first week, despite forming minutes prior to league start. Top individual point winner in the first week was Aaron Jaworski, winning all 5 of his matches, to help keep the Terry Attewell team one point shy of the Boorman led threesome.
